SAGRA DELLE CILIEGIE (28th-29th May & 2nd-5th June)

The cherry production in the Pisan Hills, and in particular in the municipality of Lari, has a secular tradition also demonstrated by the presence of numerous native varieties. The existence of unique varieties of cherry, together with the characteristics of the soils and climate of the area are the basis of the specificities of the cherries of Lari, which also contributed to the knowledge and experience of many farmers who were able to preserve and pass on the time the skills and techniques of cultivation, conditioning and packaging.
The 60th edition of the Cherry Festival (Sagra delle Ciliegie), one of the oldest in Tuscany, takes place this year on May 28 to 29, and 2 to 5 June. What better time to taste the sweet red fruit in all its traditional varieties, different flavor but intense, as part of an event organized by tradition and folklore!
During the festival they organize artistic and cultural events, and set up a very popular food stand. In the main square are with their stand exclusively local producers, offering the public their cherries in baskets and packages specially made for the occasion. Among the derivatives we note the extra jam of cherries of Lari, made by the Committee for the Protection and Enhancement of the Lari cherry. The party is certainly an excellent opportunity to discover Lari and its territory, a setting of great beauty animated by a farmer spirit that made it possible to preserve intact to this day an entire cultural and environmental heritage to the point of deserving to share the Flag orange Italian Touring Club, a seal of quality for small inland villages that stand out for bid of excellence and a quality welcome.
